Internationally the rights and obligations of the media are increasingly the subject of litigation. The responsibilities of journalists and freedom speech are in almost constant tension.

In this context, members of Chambers have recently been involved in the leading case on contempt of court, Dhooharika v Director of Public Prosecutions [2014] UKPC 11, in which the editor of a newspaper in Mauritius, Samedi Plus, was ordered to be imprisoned for contempt. James Guthrie QC was instructed by the Commonwealth Lawyers' Association, with the specific purpose of putting ensuring that all the relevant law, throughout the common law world, was made available to the Privy Council
